gerri:adam: we want to bring you up-to-date on the latest of the efforts of the senate. the white house is where rich edson is. we are waiting for the president come out of the meeting with senate democrats. we have a video showing him going in almost 40 minutes ago. has he said anything? have you heard anything? >> is continuing on capitol hill. joe biden was cut this deal. mitch mcconnell is trying to sell it to some skeptical democrats. congressional leaders are essentially giving the okay on this, but this is something that has to get through both houses of congress. so what you have here is the vice president trying to relate to concerns of a number of the more liberal democrats who think that the tax threshold is too high for them.

but there are other provisions of the one included that are not in there, and they are going to say, fiscal cliff is going to hit soon and this is the best deal we are quite yet. after that comment on the house republicans and house democrats that will need both of them to come up and vote for this thing, to get through on the house. the schedule is still a little murky. we don't know when the senate will vote on this. it will likely go first here in the senate, and then it is up to the house and the pressure is beginning to get signoff on this thing. >> that seems to be the big question. we have the video of the podium which is where we hope to get some kind of statement from someone in the senate. but it's the house leadership, nancy pelosi will have to sell liberal democrats on the idea. but eventually having to take place and then of course john boehner would have to sell house republicans on the fact that there may not be extension of cuts and they are going to be tax increases. >> exactly. and if you think of the alternative here, if liberal democrats don't like where the

threshold is, they sit on their hands and get what they want and more and more. and you have a tax increase basically up and down the income spectrum. on the other the other side of the house republicans were saying, if we don't get enough spending cuts, and just let the sequester head. it is set to hit over the next decade beginning in just a few hours from now. get your spending cuts by doing nothing. your tax increases by doing nothing. so there's a little bit of something for everyone here. gerri: as we start to wrap up, did the republicans in giving to the tax increases, did they give enough? or are the democrats who didn't want increases on anybody, they one of the line at 250,000. do they pose a real threat to the steel? >> i think that you have a protection of americans least under 250.

to avoid at least a large chunk of the automatic tax increases that are supposed to take effect shielding american, mounds of $450,000 for families, $400,000 for individuals keeping capital gains and dividend rates where they are pleasing amount of money going up to 20% on amounts of more than $450,000 for a family. at this point there are concerns among liberal democratic senate. there have been problems throughout the day. this is an attempt to get enough senate democrats to get on board to join senate republicans and get this through the u.s. senate. back to you. adam: you talk about the difficulty getting votes. house republicans to sign off on the deal. i want to remind everybody "the new york post" printed the chart of what kind of tax increase you can expect because at midnight right now this is
